BioFuel

The Biofuel is used to make Bio-CNG and biodiesel comes from the farm, not from oil wells. Since plants produce Bio-CNG/ biodiesel by absorbing carbon dioxide from the air, it is a carbon- neutral fuel. CNG/Diesel engines today only remotely resemble the engine that Rudolf Diesel designed. His engine was initially designed to run on coal dust.

Applications of Biofuel

  • Railway usage
  • Aircraft usage
  • As a heating
  • Cleaning oil pills
  • Generators
  • Vehicles

Advantages of Biofuel

  • Renewable fuel, obtained from agricultural waste, vegetable oils or animal fats.
  • Low toxicity, in comparison with Petroleum diesel or Petrol Fuel.
  • Degrades more rapidly than fossil fuel, minimizing the environmental consequences of biofuel spills.
  • Lower emissions of contaminants: carbon monoxide, particulate matter, poly-cyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, aldehydes.
  • Less Polluting.
  • Lower health risk, due to reduced emissions of carcinogenic substances.
  • No sulphur dioxide (SO2) emissions.
  • Higher flash point (100°C) minimum.
  • Excellent properties as a lubricant.
  • It is the only alternative fuel that can be used in a conventional engines, without modifications.
  • Agricultural waste, used cooking oils and fat residues from meat processing may be used as raw materials.

Classification of Biofuel

  • Bio CBG/Biodiesel, an alternative fuel, is made from renewable biological sources such as Agricultural waste, Industrial waste, vegetable oils and animal fats.
  • Similar to petroleum/Fossil fuel in structure (straight chain) and number of carbon atoms (10 to 21).
  • The Biodiesel can be prepared by transesterification. The Bio CBG can be prepared by CSTR and VPSA.

The fuel is produced by transesterification — A process that converts fats and oils into biodiesel and glycerin.
